About Me

Erika Ruiz I have always been drawn to creative endeavors. As a kid, I dreamed about becoming a writer, I was a voracious reader, and I wanted to learn the secrets of storytelling. I also loved drawing, so I learned different drawing techniques, but the one technique that really caught my eye and defined the first step in my professional life was perspective drawing.

I attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. My studies didn’t only stretch my creative limits but taught me discipline and armed me with major problem-solving skills. I practiced architecture for a few years but before I could go any further, destiny intervened and opened the door to a new career path. I decided to take this new opportunity and I entered the web design universe. Working as a web designer allowed me to let my creative mind soar, while also being hands-on in the development of my designs. For many years I felt it was the perfect way to apply both form and function to my work.

My web design experience began at CMG Worldwide Inc., a company dedicated to representing the intellectual property of celebrities. There, I had the opportunity to design websites for personalities such as Vince Lombardi, Pele, Mark Twain, Norman Rockwell, among many others. Later in my career, I was hired as the Senior Web Designer for Angie’s List where I was in charge of the authenticated side of the company’s website; I was responsible for UX/UI design for the company’s web and mobile applications. After Angie’s List, I worked as a freelancer for several years. A few years ago, destiny opened one more unexpected door, my family and I moved to the San Francisco Bay area, and since I was now living in the tech industry mecca I decided to rejoin the corporate world. I worked for two global corporations, Avnet Inc. and Texas Instruments. Both of these jobs were very challenging and allowed me to learn a great array of new professional skills.

In all of my years as a web designer, however, I always had a craving for my first creative inclination – writing. That’s why I decided to take one more fork in my professional road. I recently transitioned into the marketing arena. I currently hold the Marketing Manager position for Casa di Mir Montessori School. I feel very passionate about this latest stage in my career. I have found an avenue to use all the skills I’ve collected along the way. In my current job, I get to problem-solve, design, and write! I attended a Montessori elementary school, so I deeply understand the subject I am marketing for and that feeds the passion I feel for my job. I don’t know what lies ahead but for now, I am happy to be exactly where I am.
